Coalition government split over employment law

coalition_466Apparent divisions within the coalition government regarding employment law has been revealed through a survey by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC).  The survey revealed that 87% of Conservative MPS surveyed believed legislation in employment law had shifted too far in favour of the employee, whereas 71% of Liberal Democrat MPS surveyed felt the opposite was true. BCC has voiced concerns over these differences, highlighting the importance of a stable government in aiding the UK 's economic recovery.

The coalition government of course raised concerns as to uncertainty and disagreement, which indeed is a fearful thought in a somewhat unstable economy now suggested by some to be at risk of a "double dip." A balance must be struck between protecting employee rights but also ensuring that businesses who have acted properly are not left open to abuse by some claimants who try to "play the system." We hope that a sensible view will be taken by the government to employment legislation, which does not contribute to an already suffering economic climate where both employers and employees have been casualties.
